I just checked the GUI app and it appears that the Energy Star (DPMS) Has
been disabled. thank you. George

When you say "computer", do you mean the screen? If so, try
xset -dpms
and see if that helps.
Or do you mean your computer is actually shutting down?
If so, is it entering suspend mode?
Hibernate mode?
Or is it completely shut down?
