I hadn't heard of "XFdrake" until
Alistair mentioned it.
So yes how can you use a GUI tool if you can't run a GUI... ?

Hi,
I'm sorry to say that it is possible that newer kernel and/or Xorg version might in
some cases not deal very well with older hardware.
When you see the black screen, try the following:
Do Ctrl+Alt+F1
Login as root user
Type drakx11 OR drakxconf (not sure which one is the one to use)
Try different configurations, but it is easy to mess Xorg settings...
These small utilities are in TUI (text-mode user interface); not 100% commandline, not 100
graphical
Type reboot OR you can try to start X rightaway by typing startx, but it might not work
without rebooting, because Xorg may still be running, but with a black screen.
