I admit I've never tried it, but I have heard it works pretty well.
The Pis (except the Pico microcontroller) are a continuing victim of the pandemic chip shortage, making them rather hard to find right now unless you want to pay well over MSRP. So probably not practical until sometime next year unless one already owns a Pi.
Plandemic and oh-russia-so-bad-and-china-is-even-worse-hypocrism. I checked yesterday (need some Pi's for a project), ZeroW is ~ 50 teuros, RPi4 ~ 80 (deviverable "soon" aka 9/2023). OrangePis and NanoPis are available for a decent price (starting at ~ 20 teuros). But all of these are quite more expensive than running a VM with Linux / OpenWRT / IPFire / PFSense / OPNsense / ...
