I should have put this in my first post but forgot... I tried logging in
using a clean alternative user account, but the result was the same, a
crash message which vanished almost as soon as it appeared, followed by
a return to the login prompt.
What would I edit in starttde ? There's a lot going on in this file!
For reference, in case it wasn't clear from my first post, the bit that
actually crashes (I think) is ksmserver, if the command output is correct.
