Thanks, yes the problem is the eDP1 display's
native resolution 1366x768 -
it does not match anything that the external one supports (which is
standard full HD 1920x1080).
What makes you think that?
I've been already @intel-gfx and they suggest
trying their latest driver ...
which I did not have the time and will to do.
Maybe a live DVD would be worth trying. Best live DVD anywhere, granddaddy of
live media, the only live media I ever use (if you don't count installation
media as live media), is a Debian:
http://knoppix.net/
Its 7.6 has kernel 4.2.2 and server 17.3, both newer than jessie.
I finally do not care as far as I can use one of them,
but still our
starting point was about compatibility etc.
I think also Dell is somehow responsible for buying
the lowest quality at
the end .... but no one can blame them as well - they offer alternative NV
instead Intel, only that it is not available and must be ordered extra ...
which somehow reminds me of the intel/ibm/MS story from the late 80ies.
I don't think this is about Dell quality. It's just another big marketing
company, so it has to compete by matching the low industry standard 1366x768
generally. I doubt Dell is responsible for the existence of 1366x768, which
is an unfortunate lowfi resolution that didn't deserve to ever have been created.
Have you tried running both at 1280x720, just to see if that standard HDTV
720p resolution is possible on your displays? It works on my Vizio 1920x1080
and my Lenovo 1680x1050 even though not listed in specs or EDID output.
