Also, from my experience as an Asus EEE user, unetbootin does not work all
the time on first try. I also got better results by not touching to the
computer while unetbootin copy the data.

I used UnetBootin and the USB started okay. Tried PCLinuxOS in live
mode; it worked well, but I couldn't set the display to the full
screen width (1920x1080 on a Thinkpad). Hopefully it is adjustable
after PCLinuxOS is installed.
