After some experiments I found that the strange
sidebar behaviour only
happens to a user with a new profile (empty /etc/skel, except
for .bashrc, .bash_logout and .profile).
If I put the trinity settings from a previous install or other machine
still running 14.1.2 in /etc/skel, it bahaves as it should.
Konqueror can be run with different profiles and you can save the profile
anytime. It is likely your old profile was saved with the sidebar hidden
and a new user profile with the sidebar open.
