named it ".rar" because all compressed archives are RAR files, right?
It might work on your friend's computer if his decompression utility is
smart enough to use the correct decompressor based on the file contents,
not the extension.
Try deleting the ".rar" extension and then run the "file" command-line
utility on it and see what it says. It should inspect the file contents
and make an educated guess of the actual file type, without being
confused by the (possibly inaccurate) extension.
