Failing or malfunctioning hardware can do really, really weird things to

hmmm, today KDE logged in just fine no lockup.... also
no other updates
ether... freaky glitch maybe?

not sure as i just tested (complete reinstall
9.04
then installing KDE 3.5 got the same
notification about the same 2 upgrade files and
same
result hard lockup.
