Yes, that's what I've been thinking. But why the "error"-message then. The only thing I found is the "kde-" naming of some old files as I pointed out in the OP.
It says, "Likely a file permissions issue", which seems interesting.
I could not find anything related to file permissions and I don't know what kind of file permission problem that would be. It's about configuration files in ~/.config and ~/.local which always have had the same permissions and still have. Anyway, I can't remember what the complaints were when I first encountered this, there were three, maybe three different tests of this r14-xdg-update thing.
