I reboot system and login into plasma
I execute your commands without errors,
... now I can view full "kcontrol" and "kmail" reply correct to links,
pdf and
jpg

Please reboot, start with a clean sesson and try
again. Don't start any TDE
program before "tdeinit". Then try "kcontrol" - it should be
populated.
If you get the same errors on "tdeinit", try to kill "tdelauncher":
$ killall tdelauncher
$ tdeinit
$ kcontrol
@ .xsessionrc: you'll have to create it.
