This may be a silly question, but after changing the
language to French,
did you logout and login?
I tested with Italian translations, and after a logout/login those strings
changed into Italian.
Without logging out, they stayed in English.

I made a logout and login.
(shutdown and boot).
And always the tde deconnection menu in english.
