lightdm. That's why it does not work for you.

On Debian, you usually only need to install a second package
(tdm-trinity), and the installation is followed by a query that display
manager should be the default. I hope it could be similar on Ubuntu. If
it's already installed, you can try: dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity
