I couldn't find a bug report. But I have
just done what I should have
done ages ago. I remembered a) the threads and b) my own lack of
sympathy (I did not have the problem at the time). I did not effectively
search them all out (my search failed) and reread them in detail. I have
just done so. I had not remembered that there is a workaround. So the
proper spell check has disappeared form the tools menu and not
reappeared, but one can work around it by adding an icon to the tool bar.
I rarely use, and do not like using, icons, so had not registered the
workaround in my memory.
I think the best is to describe your problem in a bug (as you mentioned). I am fine with it.
Can you post your spell checker bug(s), so that we may look at it
(again), please
I'll try - it would still be nice to have the spell checker back in the
menu so that it could be triggered from the keyboard.

Agreed. I don't even like icons!! And as a rule don't use them. If I get my
menu entry I shan't even want it!!!
I have the spell checker active in kmail and in this
news reader and it
spellchecks while typing, which is really nice, highlighting all improperly
spelled words. I am not sure if I can set up a different language though,
which might be of interest at some point of time.
Yes, it does that. And I agree that that feature is great. But it can also
if asked actually run correcting spellings as does a word processor
spell-checker. This is a great time saver. It asks before every correction,
but cab correct the same error all the way through the document. This is
what there is no menu entry for any more when there always used to be one.
The fact that a workaround exists in the form of an icon is great, if too
Windows like, and it would have saved me a lot of time and angst if I had
taken in that fact sooner, but I prefer working from the keyboard.
