If there is fervent support for this among TDE users,
might it best be a
separate and optional package? Then those who want it may have it and
those who don't won't need to carry it around.
My opinion of Kickoff is about as low as low gets, reminding me of the dumbed
down WinXP menu as replacement of the W98/W2K menu style. Other than its
search function, I see nothing that can't be or isn't already done better in
the traditional menu. Icons to me are virtually useless regardless of size.
If an app menu list is too long, it's only either because submenuing was not
appropriately applied, and/or too many never to be used apps got installed
automatically.
(Likewise, the best I can tell entirely useless
plymouthd! Maybe somebody
wants it, but I don't and would love to learn how to cast it into the
abyss forever.)
None of my openSUSE systems have Plymouth installed. In openSUSE, dispensing
with Plymouth is easy as removing the package, either 'zypper rm plymouth'
from cmdline, or via YaST, if you neglect to taboo it during installation.
