There was some discussion at one point about replacing or supplementing
KHTML with a different engine, most likely Webkit. Lack of developer
manpower kept the idea from being tackled at the time. To my knowledge,
no one is currently working on this.

I think this pretty much summarizes the situation...
Updating (and keeping updated) Konqueror as a web browser is way beyond the current
developers' possibility at the moment.
Honestly I can't see this happening, not even in the long term unless someone else
comes along and starts working on it.
But again it would be a rather daunting task.
