I tried to add an application via control panel so that I could
just click on a file and it would open in that application.
I closed the windows and clicked on the file and now all I get
for everything is and error message
"Could not find mime type application/octet-stream" Control
panel no longer pops up and everything requires clicking OK.
Known problem. Upsteam of TDE if I remember correctly.

Click ‘Add’
Paste ‘octet-stream’
Click ‘OK’
