Obviously some kind of incompatibility between your

software exists. Before giving up, or as suggested, filing a freedesktop
DRI/DRM bug, I suggest bringing your problem to
http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/intel-gfx to see if it's a
known problem or one already solved in software you've not tried. Maybe
ULT is the problem rather than a more general Intel problem. Another
possibility is what you have is a warranty problem.
Thanks, yes the problem is the eDP1 display's native resolution 1366x768 -
it does not match anything that the external one supports (which is
standard full HD 1920x1080).
I've been already @intel-gfx and they suggest trying their latest driver ...
which I did not have the time and will to do.
I finally do not care as far as I can use one of them, but still our
starting point was about compatibility etc.
I think also Dell is somehow responsible for buying the lowest quality at
the end .... but no one can blame them as well - they offer alternative NV
instead Intel, only that it is not available and must be ordered extra ...
which somehow reminds me of the intel/ibm/MS story from the late 80ies.
Any way - thanks a lot for the useful information and kind regards
