Maybe there is a conflict because gdm is also running, have a look in
sysv-rc-conf
It should also be possible to start/stop Trinity from gdm and not use
kdm-trinity
That may be why it had trouble for me -- kdm-trinity and kdm-kde4.
I needed to run "update-alternatives --all" after installing LXDE to get
the defaults I wanted
Be careful with that if you use it, go through it first without making
any changes
