Thanks Felix, I'm sure I've seen it before today, just didn't notices
the change until today and only because of this thread did I notice the

But if it helps someone, in our current TDE install I found the
'keramik' window decoration has a gap between all the buttons.

I think I figured out what the change was about,
in kde4 a small space
was created between the close and maximize/restore button.
I think it likely happened before KDE4:
