I'm using two 21" CRT displays, one

dock's VGA, second to DVI using DVI-HDMI converter and HDMI-VGA

case, having such "adapter ladder" makes system forget about
monitor's default modes, obtained in Linux by VESA digital signals.
To fix the problem, I have a shell script which starts when my
laptop is docked or starts docked. This script consists of xrandr
commands, like: - Turn off notebook's internal display - Turn VGA
monitor on - Insert modeline to DVI. - Turn on DVI, right of VGA. -
Select resolution from inserted modeline. Personally I couldn't fix
the problem in any GUI solution, or without modelines. MCbx
All of which raises the question: "What is the "Monitor and Display"
option in the TDE Control Centre is for?"
The old KDE3 module contained a "screen" droplist for configuring
individual monitors--has this changed? (I only have single-monitor
systems available right now.)
Another option, if and only if your computer's video card uses an
nVidia chipset, is to install the manufacturer's proprietary driver module
and configuration utility, which offers extended support. I don't know
if AMD offers an equivalent. Intel almost certainly doesn't.
