Well, almost any idea is better than that. :) But have you considered starting from David Hare's Exe GNU/Linux? It's Squeeze with Trinity already installed.
Yes, at an early stage, but decided that last time I tried to install from it the resulting system was too trimmed down.
I am getting so bogged down now, that I didn't properly consider that a trimmed down system is significantly better than none!! It is downloading as we speak.
