I've been trying again to install TDE on Mageia 3 (following the install instructions). .. However, I've noticed that links, when installing software from Mageia, contain a directory "cauldron", and uname -a returns an "mga4" element. I associate "cauldron" with a development version, am I right?
It might be you've been affected by a known installer bug in the first version of the DVD .iso.
At the end of installation, did you accepted the installer offer to do a s/w update *before* the post-installation re-boot? If so, the 'Cauldron' bug can be avoided by postponing s/w update until *after* the re-boot.
Yes, I think that's what happened. I've downloaded and installed a newer DVD image. TDE is installed too - although I had to search for, download and install several dependancies that where not on the DVD (and yes I had selected non-free), did not even seem to be on the mirrors.
That let me feel back some 15 years ago when I stuggled to install my first Linux distributions :)
Anyway its done, now I still have some tuning to do and try using Mageia as my main system.
