Did you try pavucontrol? I found out for me (on Debian
Buster) that
using "Custom" for the master channel and adjusting the volume for the
specific source (Skype, Firefox) in pavucontrol solves the "low volume" or
mitigates it.
Thanks!! I did not know about it, I just has a quick look, where do you
find the specific source the pavucontrol menu, I am unable to find them.
