Wait... so you're saying that you manually save your session when you
have everything set up a certain way, then every time you log in to your
desktop you click something to manually restore your settings an
applications?

I forgot to say that once this setting is done in kcontrol, the bottom
of KDE main menu changes (see attached file). So you can leave your session
after pressing this "Save Session" item. Re-openning it should give
something corresponding to what you are dreaming of.
