Do you mean hibernate, not suspend.
(the options are shown commented with the default

If this setting
Lid closes hibernates in Gnome but *not* in TDE
If this has been changed, then I could see Gnome/TDE
handling the suspend on
lid-close differently.
So what happens to you in TDE, if you close the lid?
