Thank you all for replies. In my case this was openSUSE 11.3. I was doing a fresh install of Debian, but keeping the /home partition. I tried doing the migration today but sadly it did not work. Having .kde folder in home directory prevented Trinity from even starting. Same if I renamed .kde to .trinity. The only thing I really cared about though were emails, so I just moved my .kde folder to a different location and then copied kmail settings to .trinity folder. As mentioned by Thierry this required editing some config files, but in the end it worked.
