Problem with fonts in KPDF

Hi all, I have a question about KPDF under Trinity 3.5.13.2, Debian wheezy. I have problems with fonts in PDFs built using LaTeX - see attached screenshot (I hope it makes it to the list). Notice how the upper curve of 'o' and 'e' is not visible. Same happens with lower curve of 's'. This is pretty annoying. Is there any way to fix this? On my other machine that still runs KDE3 this problem does not exist, so there should be a way of fixing this. Perhaps I should install some system-wide set of fonts?
