Hi Knut, It sounds like either your installation was incomplete, or you have a corrupt ~/.kde3 directory. Try moving your ~/.kde3 directory to something like ~/.kde3.bkp (from the command line, i.e. when you are not logged in to KDE3.5) and try logging in again. If that doesn't work, your installation is incomplete or has been corrupted somehow.

Hi Tim,

great, you saved my day. At least you saved Kubuntu on my desktop. After renaming .kde3 and logging in again into KDE3 kgpg (kde3), kmail (kde4) etc. reappeared in the KDE panel. Eventually I found out that kicker.rc was the culprit. I deleted it and configured the panel anew. Thus I didn't loose all the KDE-configuration.
