Greetings all;
I have a need to disable dpms and anything else associated with blanking
the screen, sometime for around 12 hours.
Our old friend xset has apparently been neutered and incapable to
controlling any of this.
So what is silently overriding these user set choices, something in TDE?
Thanks all.
Cheers, Gene Heskett

I am 80 years old and retired after a career in Systems programming and consulting, but I am a complete novice when it comes to Linux. I have decided to try Ubuntu 20.04 and as part of the learning process I decided to install the Trinity Desktop Environment.
After struggling through the installation I finally was able to get the installation to run without errors, however, the Desktop does not activate when logging into Ubuntu. Also, Trinity is not listed in the "sessions" list on the log in page.
1. Is there anyway to check if the installation was completed correctly?
2. How do I activate the desktop if the installation was correct?
Thank you,

Hello all,
Tried to upgrade/update my old pi 3. But I got a message saying it was
impossible to install Libpoppler-tqt_4 and then TDE was broken.
No biggie as I just wrote back the backup image but I don't know if this was a
download problem or there is something missing in the repository.

Hello Humans (eck) AIs and others.
I had avidemux minimized to systray when I had to restart kicker.
The program is still running but the gui seems to have disappeared.
I see "avidemux3_qt5 in ksysguard, and I can see the cpus under load, and the
video file growing in size. So it's still working but no gui is visible.
Has anyone experienced this and does anyone know how to get the gui to become
visible again.

Hi All,
Is it possible to setup a KMail filter that will:
- Only operates in one specific folder (and never in any other)
- that removes all messages older than one month?
I get a ton of server messages, 50+K per month, that are only useful for a
specific number of days. I know how to filter these info only ones into a
single folder, but the deleting I’m not too sure of. (and don't want to have
to restore my mail system a dozen times in testing...)
Thanks,
Michael

OK I'll like to begin by blaming, I mean crediting Nik for the clue I needed
to build Transmageddon. He said it was a gtk3 app. So I installed all the
related devel packages and built it.
He was right, it was a gtk3 problem. Once I rebuilt it, it works great.
Thanks to Nik and everyone.
Hope everyone is fairing well in this zombie Apocalypse.
Remember to double tap.

Hi Bill
the only thing I can think of is, purge all settings, config, cache etc.
and try again from the command line. See what it pops out.
If you are up to it, grab the source code and build it. If you get it working
like that, that means the deb package is likely faulty somehow.

Does Debian have any kind of configuration option that can make 'apt upgrade' try
harder to download all packages instead of all except one that for whatever mirror
failure reason fails, and halting the upgrade process because that one file didn't
download? It seems typical here that one package, any package, isn't found on the
trinity mirrors on the first pass, but on second invocation of apt upgrade, that
one package is fetched, and the entire apt upgrade continues to completion.

Trinity 14.0.8 (stable), Debian stable
Kmail is set as default email client.
Sending an invitation from video conferencing , meet.jitsi, kmail composer pops up but no invitation is displayed in the email body.
Normal behavior? Not what I expected.

Hi humans, AIs and others.
I've been playing with transmegeddon. It doesn't seem to work at all.
I can open an avi video file but, if I open anything else, it crashes.
Once I've set it up to convert the avi to say an ogm, it sits there doing
nothing.
Can someone else check it out?
Thanks
Kate
