Twice in the last 2 weeks I have been forced to reboot the machine, as it
had a locked up, unkillable session of kmail showing in htop. I had hit
the list reply button, only to be greeted by the spinning dumbell mouse
cursor, which would spin forever. The machine was NOT stuck in a loop
someplace burning up cpu's, nothing, not even kmail was showing any
great cpu activity, but the process itself was unkillable.
This time I was attempting to teach Bret Busby how to construct a sig
separator, the \r-- \r sequence and it was one of his reply messages I
was reading & tried to reply to when it locked up.
This reboot took around 30 minutes because /amandatapes-1T, a terabyte
drive, had not been fsck'd in 181 days, and fscking a terabyte drive,
even if no errors other than severe fragmentation (62%) exist is a 30 to
45 minute process. Amanda, the backup program, /thinks/ the drive is a
30 tape, changer equiped library. (except its 10,0000% more dependable
that such a mechanical monster would be, and 2% of the cost) I'd hate to
think how long it will take to do a 2 terabyte drive as there is now 4
of them here at the Heskett mini-ranchette. Its difficult to buy
anything smaller.
I deleted the last 4 messages from him from ~/Mail/kubuntu-users/cur
before I restarted kmail, knowing I'd be going thru the same hung
machine procedure if I didn't. Last time I made 3 reboots trying, and
finally just cleaned out the folder (a different one) before trying a
4th reboot & kmail restart. That, like this, complained about the index
file being corrupted on the launch of kmail but normal operation was
able to be resumed.
Has anyone a clue just what gmail is doing now? Or how to fix kmail so
it tolerates a message posted from their (IMNSHO) busted webmail app?
This is R14.0.0.2 I believe. Last updated from Slavics? server a day
back.
Looks like I'll need to reboot again, I have a net caused ooops in the
log, and my local network is dead although I can ping yahell.

Forgot to mention
kipi plugins are not seen by the "qt3" or kde3 version of digikam, but is seen
in the kde4 version.
Also gphotoframe is spitting this little error;

I've been playing about with the latest release of PCLOS. I'm very happy with
it so far.
There are some things I don't know if I care for, such as HAL, but so far it
hasn't bothered me or refused to open the pod bay doors.
I had a little trouble with synaptic and the reps, but I'm figuring that out.
Never try to figure things out when deprived of chocolate btw.
I can't remember the lad's name, that put this together but cheers to you. So
far so good.
Sorry to took so long to get back to you on the test results but I never just
do an install, I do some deep testing and mods. If it can stand up to me
insanity, then it's a go.

Hi all!
I have a funny problem with a camera: "Casio Exilim", is recognised as a usb storage device, and under TDE <= 14.0.0 the camera was managed by TDEs device manager, i.e. a popup appered "New media found. What do you want to do?", just like any USB stick.
After the update to 14.0.1 things have changed: usb-sticks are still managed as expected, just the camera is not. I can mount it manually (but that's not quite what the user expected).
So, where should I go looking? It's debian jessie, btw.

I don't know if there is a problem or not with the web archives
for "trinity-devel(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net"
The archive is no longer ordered by date and there seems to be a lot
of posts missing. Indeed looking back I haven't had a post from
the "devel" list since 25th October 2015.
A post I made to that list yesterday hasn't shown up either :-(

took a laptop out I haven't used for about a month or so but which had
been my daily machine, Thinkpad x120e.
I couldn't get in via the password. I sensed the advent of senility
until I determined it wasn't registering the underscore. I booted off
a livecd and chrooted in, removed underscore from the pw and got in
normally.
I made sure the keyboard was set to US english (intl) but I still
couldn't use grsync! that is, it wouldn't take the pw to my NAS which
also has underscores. not sure right now what other keys were wrong.
it replaces the underscore with hyphens.
so I'm guessing gnome stuff got scrambled. I use Hare's exegnu. I'm on
jessie.
I'm hoping there's a quick command-line fix.
what caused this, I don't know but I assume some hard-drive blip.

I've not been around for a week or three and have not been able to
collect my magazines until today.
However in "Electronics Weekly", October 14 - 20 th edition, on the
front page, there is a mention of Trinity DE on the Raspberry Pi
running "Q4OS Linux distribution.

Hello.
After upgrading to Debian Jessie and TDE 14.0.1, I got problems with
drag and drop between Konqueror and other non-TDE applications. For
example I can't drag into FileZilla to upload file anymore.
Is it a result of some modification, or maybe I forgot to install some
"interoperation" package?
