Hello, By installing something like Ubuntu 14.04 I can easily have a wifi connection and even install some Trinity apps. This is by using the most recent repos (Raring, 13.04) as instructed in www.trinitydesktop.org/wiki/bin/view/Documentation/UbuntuBinaryInstallation. However, when the core TDE packages are selected (using Synaptic), they appear as broken - missing several dependencies. OTOH, if I try to use Ubuntu 13.04, with which I hope the Raring repos are compatible, then I can't get a wifi connection - my machine (Lenovo Thinkpad T440s) is too recent, and I have already gone thru the hassle of installing firmware, drivers, etc. to no avail. It's the same problem with Exe Gnu/Linux or a live CD Image for Ubuntu with Trinity preinstalled. Any ideas? For now I can use Windows or a distro without TDE. Also I think of selling the Thinkpad and using a less demanding (and expensive) machine. Robert

PCLinuxOS non-official TDE remaster version 2014, April 30 is ready to download!

Hi everyone! My PCLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster version 2014, April 30 is ready to download! I call it non-official because it doesn't come from the PCLOS team and since it contains software coming from outside of their repos, it is also not supported by them. It only has a special ''permission to exist'' from the PCLinuxOS dev team. It can be seen as a whole as the much-loved PCLOS 2007, but fully updated and upgraded. It is a complete system that can be used as a LiveDVD or it can be installed (from the LiveDVD). New on this release: -Fully updated PCLinuxOS 2014 base system -Based on stable TDE 3.5.13.2 -A theme switch Zenity script to let the user switch between the more modern theme I use and TDE Classic theme, to please more users. -A SuperKaramba theme pack -XBMC media center and wine are new apps included on the DVD On this LiveDVD: -Tons of TDE software and major apps like LibreOffice, Firefox and Gimp Login info (on the LiveDVD): Regular user:guest Password:guest Super user: root Password:root System requirement: A x86 computer with at least 384mb of RAM. It is a 32bit system, but it can be installed on a 64bit system too. Hi Alexandre, I think the issues I may have had are from the screensavers. If I let the screen timeout on it's own and just blank things seem to work OK if I activate the Screensavers doesn't seem to matter which one I pick weird things happen. Can anyone else confirm this? I do usually use a screensaver I have two machines one I use at work for meetings and testing that runs 8 hours a day but usually only gets used a couple of hours unless I have a massive amount of meetings. The screensaver on this one is more for security so I can lock the screen. The other is used at home ( it is a larger unit don't like to carry it around ) usually that gets used an hour to three a night 5 days a week and shut off each day. On the weekends I usually leave this machine on all day so I can use it whenever I want without having to wait for it to boot, so I usually leave a screensaver on that one as well but not usually locked. Both machines are Intel CPU's with Intel graphics. I believe both are based on the Sandy bridge chip set. I will continue to test and see what I can find. Overall the new version is very nice.

3.5.12 vs 3.5.13 performance?

Hello I have installed on a Thinkpad X200 (4 Giga RAM) Kubuntu 10.04+ I think trinity 3.5.12 (sudo dpkg -l | grep kde3) gives things like "adept-manager-kde3 4:3.5.12-0ubuntu6+r1124765 package manager for KDE3" Now I have recently installed Lucid+trinity 3.5.13 on a much older Thinkpad with just 1.5 Giga RAM. I have the impression that the second installation is much faster, for example the Control panel which I have at the botton of my screen needs ages to disappear in the first installation but only miliseconds in the second. Can anybody confirm this (so is a upgrade recommended?) thanks Uwe Brauer

Possible new distribution and mirror for Trinity Desktop Environment.

Hi I'm Michael (k3lt01) and I am the lead (read only) person involved in CobberLinux (1) or Cobber for short. The intent behind Cobber is to create an Australasian Linux that is easy to use and suits the countries in Australasia. I have created my own repository (using reprepro) and it is hosted on sourceforge (2). To give Australasian users a wide variety of choices I am creating different flavours or Cobber using different Desktop Environments. My intent is to support, via translation and repository hosting if need be, Desktop Environments who support Cobber's Australasian users. By this I mean Desktop Environments that allow and encourage users to have their own language (or national language) as standard in the distribution. Now that I have briefly explained Cobber I have 2 questions for you. 1. How do I translate Trinity Desktop Environment into Australian (New Zealand, Papua New Guinean) English? I have a transifex account (user name k3lt01) and a script to do automatic translations. I have already translated MATE, XFCE, and Pidgin messenger and will translate Gnome and KDE when I get the time (they have a massive amount of pot files to work through). 2. Would you like, or even allow, me to host your packages in Cobber's sourceforge repository so that cobber users have a geographically close mirror to access? What about Mir and Wayland future support?

Hi, Looks like X11 is will come to the end of its life in the next few years, while Ubuntu talks of Mir and there is also Wayland. Will it be possible to adapt TDE and TQt3 for these new graphic frameworks? Text Vanished

Hi Guys, Just had a friend call me and tell me that all the text in his applications and logout window has disapeared ! He is running Alexandre's PCLinuxOS with the Trinity desktop. Gwenview memory usage

Wheezy amd 64, TDE 3.5.13.2. I use Gwenview to view .tiff files, these are Architectural D drawings scanned to .tiff. They range in size: 350K>1.1M. The feature I kike about Gwenview as a viewer is I can view a directory full of tiff files and browse thru them using the toolbar. The downside, it seems, is that after viewing about 10 or so files all 8gb of memory is used, all other apps have been swapped out so checking mail or any other task is slow ..actually the workstation becomes to slow to be productive. Memory is not released between file views..is this normal? This is first app I have noticed using all memory so quickly..seems unusual. Thanks -- Peace, Greg

using other composters with TDE

I would like to use Compton with TDE is it possible? I have tried a few things but have yet to get it to work on login. I can manually start it after login but can't make it autostart.
