LibreOffice problem - TDE / KDE File Picker !?
by Thierry de Coulon 21 Nov '14

21 Nov '14

Hello all, Today I installed two versions of LO (4.3.4 at first, 4.2.7 later) on openSUSE+TDE 3.5.13.2 ; I have 4.2.5 running with no problem on a similar setup (albeit on another hardware). The problem is that when I try to install extensions LO freezes. I first thought it might be a problem of the latest version, that's why I tried 4.2.x, but no change. I then tried running it as root, same thing. In the end I read the crash message better (when it announced the install dialog had terminated) and noticed it talked about "KDE File Picker". I do have the basic components of KDE 4 installed (pulled in by some dependencies) but not the DE. I switched back to XFCE, started LO and installed the extensions with no problem. Back in TDE I can use the extensions. So this File Picker the culprit. Obviously LO can "see" when "KDE" is running, and uses another "file picker" if not. Is it trying to run a KDE 4 element under TDE, and crashed? Is it trying to use some TDE software but does not manage it? Maybe when everything is renamed "TDE" this sort of situation will be easier to debug. Thinking about my workaround, I remembered a setup point in options/general that offers to "Use LibreOffice dialogue boxes". Selecting that cures the problem. But it does not tell me if this is a TDE or KDE issue. Thierry

Kubuntu 10.04, trinity installation fails: kdeinit not found
by Uwe Brauer 21 Nov '14

21 Nov '14

hello This is the first time this happens to me. I followed, as always the instruction found in https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/UbuntuInstall Everything seemed ok, but when I logged in for the first time with TDE I received Cannot start kdeinit check your installation. I run again sudo apt-get install kubuntu-default-settings-trinity kubuntu-desktop-trinity but it told me everything fine. So I will purge the installation and repeat it, but I would like to understand the reason for this mysterious behavior. regards Uwe Brauer

Email server maintenance
by Timothy Pearson 21 Nov '14

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA224 All, The main pearsoncomputing.net Email server (which also hosts the TDE mailing lists) will be going down for scheduled maintenance shortly (11/06/2014 16:00 GMT). Estimated termination of scheduled maintenance is 11/07/2014 05:00 GMT. During this window I will (in addition to many other changes) be addressing the sporadic list delivery issues to specific addresses relating to DKIM implementation on certain service providers. It is hoped that these upgrades will stabilize the lists somewhat and make them easier to use. The list software interfaces will not be changing, and no list archives will be lost. Thank you for your patience! gcc and Trinity dependencies
by ant 21 Nov '14

I didn't get any answers to this (see below)... Is that because: 1 I didn't make myself clear? 2 Nobody knows? 3 I'm trying to do something so stupid it should be obvious to me? cheers ant ------------------------------- previous message --------------- I need to reinstall gcc, but when I try, I get this: (Trinity 3.5.13.2 /etc/debian_version is jessie/sid) ------------------------- />aptitude install gcc The following NEW packages will be installed: gcc-4.9{a} libasan1{a} libatomic1{a} libcilkrts5{a} libgcc-4.9-dev{a} liblsan0{a} libtsan0{a} libubsan0{a} The following packages will be upgraded: binutils gcc 2 packages upgraded, 8 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded. Need to get 11.3 MB of archives. After unpacking 35.4 MB will be used. The following packages have unmet dependencies: kdesktop-trinity : Depends: binutils (< 2.23) but 2.24.51.20140727-1 is to be installed. The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Remove the following packages: 1) kdebase-kio-plugins-trinity 2) kdebase-runtime-data-common-trinity 3) kdebase-trinity 4) kdesktop-trinity 5) kmail-trinity 6) konqueror-nsplugins-trinity 7) konqueror-trinity 8) ksmserver-trinity ------------------------ I guess if I do this, Trinity will stop working. Is there a fix? cheers ant -- Sent from my linux system running Debian 7, desktop trinity-KDE. This email is plain text, not HTML. Any attachments are either .jpeg or .pdf

Package for arch linux
by Dr. Martin Senftleben 21 Nov '14

21 Nov '14

Hi, i have been using Trinity quite a lot, but due to problems with some distros I switched to Manjaro (based on arch linux), where it seems a bit more complicated to include TDE than in the Ubuntu derivates. I found the instructions on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Trinity. There it says I should edit pacman.conf (which I did) with the following lines: [trinity] SigLevel = Never Server = http://trinity.ceux.org/r14/x86_64 When running "pacman -Syu", I get the message that trinity.db couldn't be retrieved from trinity.ceux.org. Is this a permanent problem, or is there a typo or a different URL? I need Trinity and would be glad if someone could help. Thanks! Martin

kmail 1.9.10 on TDE 3.5.13.2: anyone else see this?
by Thierry de Coulon 19 Nov '14

19 Nov '14

I'm running above mentioned kmail version on openSuSE 13.1 (and the problem seems not to occur on Debian): "Reply" and "Reply to author" don't quote the OP "Reply to all" and "Reply to mailing list" do quote correctly. As I don't know what happens to the code between compilations for different distributions I don't understand why 3.5.13.2 behaves differently, and it's not a problem difficult to live with. Maybe will disappear in 14. Have a nice day, Thierry

screen reader for on TDE
by Lisi Reisz 18 Nov '14

18 Nov '14

I have been asked by a blind friend how friendly TDE is to the totally blind, and whether there is a screen reader. He could of course install Orca on TDE, but Orca pulls in a lot of Gnome. Comments please. I said that I would ask on the list. Lisi
