Hi,
I'm really happy to have KDE3 back as my default desktop. Thus I've got the
possibility to check out KDE4 while working with a known an stable desktop.
But there is one thing I'm already missing. Knetworkmanager doesn't work
anymore as it did before the upgrade to Jaunty. The program used to be a
powerful tool which I used quite frequently not only to connect to different
wireless networks with my laptop but also to get additional information like
Mac-ID's of access point or statistics about data transmission. None of these
features exist anymore.
Is there a way to get back the "old" knetworkmanager or at least is there a
tool which provides the same functionality?

I recently made an upgrade from Hardy to Jaunty on my laptop (Intel-X86
packages). Since KDE4 doesn't provide the full functionality of KDE3 I
installed kubuntu-desktop-kde3 following the instructions given on
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Kde3/Jaunty to get a system with two
parallel desktops. After kicking out some leftover Hardy-packages I
eventually managed to get a working KDE-3.5.10.
But KDE3 started with an empty KDE panel. I first had to add applets
like "Clock", "K Menu", "Show Desktop", "Taskbar", "Trash" etc. again to get
what I used to have before the upgrade. The only thing still missing are the
icons of programs like "kalarm", "kpowersave", "kmix", "kgpg" etc. All of
these programs are running on my system either in the KDE3 or KDE4 version.
But none of them seem to register with kicker under KDE3 whereas the icons
appear in the panel of KDE4.
How can I fix this problem?

Hi,
I think this has been discussed previously, but I'd just like to clarify the
state of Bluetoot support in KDE3.5 on Jaunty. Is kdebluetooth available? I
guess if not, then general bluetooth support (for input devices etc) is still
available using the Gnome tools if installed?

I am attempting to install kde3 on a fresh jaunty cli system. I have followed the instructions at
http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/
Specifically, added to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kde3-maintainers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kde3-maintainers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
Then...
sudo apt-get update
wget http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/public.gpg
sudo apt-key add public.gpg
However,
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop-kde3
fails with "Couldn't find package".
To test,
sudo apt-get install kde3-maintainers-keyring
succeeds.
Searching the repository, I can not find "kubuntu-desktop-kde3" anywhere. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the repository?
BTW, I can not use the jaunty-kde3 live cd because it does not support installation on a linux raid1 mirror.

This issue is a tangent of an earlier thread where I requested people
to mention their reasons for staying with KDE 3. The System Monitor
plasmoid seems to be a big enough single concern to warrant it's own
thread. After going through the changes requested for the System
Monitor plasmoid, I have broken the requests up into three separate
bug reports:

Please comment on the relevant bugs, but most importantly,
_include_screenshots_ of KDE 3. Assume that the dev who is reading the
report and looking at the screenshot is _not_ familiar with KDE 3 so
label important things and describe changes _in_detail_. When in
doubt, ask here or contact me off-list.
Just to make it clear, I am not affiliated with KDE in any manner
other than as an end user like you. My goal is _not_ to force people
to abandon KDE 3 for a KDE 4 which does not suite them, rather, it is
to identify the strong points of KDE 3 and to integrate them into KDE
4.

leaving you with a large number of icons which looks overwhelming and
cluttered. I mentioned separators between various aspects of the panel

Ah I know what you mean now. I've got around that in 4.2 by putting the
Taskbar in a panel almost on its own - I only have the K menu in with
it. The other stuff like clock, power, network, devices... I put into a
different panel and put it up the right of the screen. Just thought I'd
suggest that here for other people struggling with the transition.

Agreed, but again here's something to ease the pain: have you tried
hitting F4 in a Dolphin window? You then get a command line where the
directory stays in synch (both ways) with the GUI pane.
I agree the whole mount/unmount thing in KDE 4's GUI is broken. The way
GNOME does it by default is excellent (but that's the only thing I like
about GNOME. :-)

Hello list,
the executables of KDE3.5 are now located in /opt/kde3/bin, but my KDE3 installation doesn't seam to know that.
My present solution for the console was to set the PATH in my .zshrc and it worked fine until yesterday.
Yesterday I tried to print a pdf via Kpdf but I got the error that cupsdoprint could not be found since it's located in
/opt/kde3/bin. What can I do? How can I set the PATH variable such that KDE3 also knows it?
PS: I have already thrown the PATH assignment into /etc/environment but that didn't help, too.
