I am just wondering when a port of KDE 3.5.x will be available on Ubuntu 12.04.

I am actually building the latest GIT development sources against 12.04 now: https://quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/~trinity/+archive/trinity-nightly-bu...
As you can see there is some work that needs to be done, but not too bad overall.
