Thanks Rolf, it helps get a better picture.
Here some comments
Hi deloptes:
I have a virtual machine running OwnCloud. Calender and addresss data is
managed on the computer with thunderbird (or by the web frondend) and
for syncing there are cheap (~ 1€) apps for iphone and adroid and windows.
This means OwnCloud is the master for your PIM data.
One of the things that make it more complex is that I do use Nokia N9 and
the next phone I'll buy will be Jolla. I'm also thinking of buying Jolla
tablet. That is why I was hoping that someone would sit down and write a
decent plugin for t(k)depim. The problem is in the complexity of the SyncML
protocol ... so the only way would be to implement it based on
syncevolution as they did it with akonadi.
In fact I'm not sure what is the status of the TDEPIM. I got desperate and
dropped the work on the KDE+ akonadi and opensync and then dropped the idea
to use KDE4+.
One of the reasons was the discussion with syncevo and the syncml protocol.
The other was the status of KDE4+.
I then decided to stick to KDE3 , which fortunately got support by Thimothy.
(God bless him!)
There is a file syncing tool in debian available, but I use konquerer
with webdav to access files.
Which tool do you mean?
I found no way to use CalDav and/or CardDAV with net connections (only
on local machine) and get no answer for related question on this list.
I am not sure this is the best way as well - you surely need a local server
to provide the connection, however I need to sync at least 2 devices with
the PC - so 3 devices in total, where the PC would be the one to provide
the sync engine. I am not aware of any service keeping track of clients and
changes in this context, which is the case in SyncML.
Having too many projects == work I was and am still not able to spend too
much time in open source development.
However checking the status I think it would benefit us all to bring the
syncevo engine to the TDE community. Which means developing TDEPIM
interface and plugin(s).
Perhaps I should move the discussion to the dev list as the picture from
user perspective is pretty clear now.
Any additional input is appreciated
Thanks
