I have been using Trinity 3.5.13.2 with plenty of
satisfaction under Kubuntu Ocelot. I made a clean install of Precise Pangolin using the
Trinity live cd (3.5.13.2) on a newly acquired used AMD computer and have managed to get
it working fine except for few fine points I cannot figure out how to do.

1) Under Ocelot, I used to be able to plug in a usb stick and immediately get an icon of
it on my desktop with a recognizable name (like "Lexar" ) with a dropdown menu
allowing me to mount it. It would then be mounted on /media/Lexar which I found very
convenient and I could then see it fine in my Konqueror file manager. Ditto for cdroms.
There were also no special entries in my fstab file referring to usb or cdrom devices. So
how do I get this going on my new Precise installation?
Just to clarify, I would like to know what I could do in order to see the contents of a
removable usb-drive when I plug it in. The only way to see the content is to mount the
devices manually as sudo. I did a lot of googling and there is mention of hal. Is it
supposed to be running? Because in my case, it seems not. I checked that 3 hal-related
packages are installed : hal, hal-trinity and hal-info.
When i do "ps aux | grep hal" , I get just one line only, referring to
"--color=auto hal".
In dmesg, I found several lines referring to a hald segfault with error 4 and also of
hal-trinity main process killed by a SEGV signal, ended and respawning (several
repetitions of this) and then finally of hal-trinity respawning too fast and stopped.
I tried reinstalling the hal-trinity package and also dpkg-reconfigure. No change.
Maybe I'm not on the right track.
