The only real
bother is why something would overwrite my changes with KDE
again. If that is not a security issue, then I suppose that I can live
with the bug.

Hi Bill,
what version of TDE are you using? If you are using a version before
R14.0.8, that fix to change to tde-* would probably not work fine and
wouldn't be surprised you get kde-* entries back in the file when you edit
the TDE menu.
