kpdf-part is for opening files in konqueror directly, if you want to. kpdf-trinity is the right one - the standalone app.
Ahh, but it took locate a while to find it: gene@coyote:/etc$ locate kpdf-trinity /usr/lib/mime/packages/kpdf-trinity /usr/share/doc/kpdf-trinity /usr/share/doc/kpdf-trinity/AUTHORS
[…]
/var/lib/dpkg/info/kpdf-trinity.postrm
Does that look like a good install? I don't see anything in a *bin at all.
On my system (preliminary stable builds for Debian, TDE R14.0.6) the binaries are in:
/opt/trinity/bin/
Also, the binary for kpdf is called just "kpdf", that is:
/opt/trinity/bin/kpdf
And by golly, thar it tis!
But its still not in the "office" menu's? ? ?

It is in my office menus, FWIW, even though I almost never run programs except my alt-F2 or command-line. (Actually, I find that KPDF occurs in my menus no less than 3 times, maybe more that I haven't found.) In any case, I believe that you can insert any item, including kpdf, into your menu manually, using TDE Menu Editor: alt-F1, then right-click on office and edit menu.

I looked at kmenuedit this afternoon, and got the impression i didn't have perms to do anything to it. RunnIng Kfindapps didn't find it either, yet /opt/trinity/bin is in my $PATH. so I gave up, figure smarter folks could tell me what to do next, and went to carve some steel. Made a touch stylus from a 1/4x2" grade 12 cap screw. Works well but my cabling is acting as an antenna, picking up noise which equals false trips. Tomorrow. This new machine is painted with epoxy paint, and NOTHING is grounded like it should be. Mutter mutter.

You might want to look into that permissions problem. Are you generally able to run programs as root? Somebody else may want to jump in here, as I've never had issues about changing my KDE3 or TDE menus.
Is your system is set up for multiple users? That would be a reason to restrict permissions on such items.
