Ok, it looks like compiz is broken for intel x server, and it's not related to the kde3 repository. If anybody has gotten compiz working reliably without hanging on a lenovo t400 please let me know how you did it. ;-) Tim, would it be possible to get k9copy and fusion-icon for kde3?
Thanks a lot!

Hi Ben, I believe I have fixed the problem--why don't you give it a try and see if it works properly on your end as well. :-) Tim B. Buchli wrote:
Tim, yeah, it's a custom i386 kernel. If you need any help with fixing this, let me know what I can do. Thanks a lot! Ben kb9vqf@pearsoncomputing.net <mailto:kb9vqf@pearsoncomputing.net> wrote:
Hi Ben, You're right! Are you running an i386 kernel? For some reason my amd64 system shows the correct -kde3 dependencies, while my i386 system shows the same incorrect dependencies as yours. I'll add this info to the bug report so I don't forget... Tim
Tim, thanks for your response, and I'm sorry I didn't know there was a bug filed. If I try and install emerald-kde3 I get the following dependencies: compiz-core compiz-plugins compiz-wrapper libdecoration0 libemeraldengine0-kde3 note that there is only one -kde3... the installation then fails because: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/compiz-core_1%3a0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1_i386.deb: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/man/man1/compiz.1.gz', which is also in package compiz-core-kde3 I am pretty sure I have installed all the necessary packages, and believe that the problem is the non-kde3 dependencies. Thanks a lot! Ben Timothy Pearson wrote:
Have you installed emerald-kde3? How are you attempting to enable Emerald? Does the rest of Compiz work properly? At the moment, -kde3 compiz and emerald cannot be installed simultaneously with non-kde3 compiz and emerald due to bug 57 (http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=57). That bug is next on my list of problems to deal with. Tim B. Buchli wrote:
So I finally found some time to (try and) set up compiz on my laptop again. It used to work on 8.04, but seems to be broken now. If I install only compiz stuff with -kde3, I can use only the sluggish gtk window decorator. If I try and install emerald I have non-kde3 dependencies. This of course does not install cleanly because it says "already in package XY." Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Ben
