If you have sorting by thread enabled in the folder, then right-click on
one of the messages in the thread - there is a Mark Thread submenu.

Note: In KMail, there is an option for the thread
to choose Watch /
Ignore. Although I've been using KMail every day for many years, I've
never tried it. Has anyone tried how it works?
Where (in what menu) is that? I just looked and can't find it.
