Oh for the good old days. Actually, they're not that old cos I've never
had this issue in the past and it ain't that long since I did a fresh
install of TDE.

Is there a simple way to install TDE without sudo
these days or do I
need to build it all myself to avoid sudo?
There are two ways IMO.
First install without the meta packages
Second install via the meta package and remove what you do not want.
Third option I never tried, but people report that you can omit sudo while
keep sudo-trinity.
