Should be fixed in commit 4ac8a1a8 (tde-packaging).
Updated packages are already available in apt source.

don't recall being very clear. :-)
It's a (fairly fresh) Kubuntu 14.04 install. I pulled the TDE packages
from your repo of "almost stable" stuff.
If I pull it all out and use the nightlies, will I fare better?
Fastest way to fix this for you is for you to just remove the
incompatible plasma-desktop package. We need to fix whatever broke the
TDE<-->KDE compatibility, but in your case since you're not interested in
using the Plasma desktop just de-install it and stick with TDE.
