Maybe it's a hardware issue? Nearly 3 year old MSI laptop.

I captured after-trinity-control-centre.png, and manually saved the session.
I did a ctrl-alt-backspace and logged in to restart the desktop, then
took after-restart-X.png .
Hm .. would you mind starting with a clean TDE config? i.e. log out of TDE, go to a
console, do "mv ~/.trinity ~/_trinity_old" and try again?
