If only it were so easy. Maybe it is.
I'm on nightly builds on top of Natty. Some rough edges, but definitely usable.
One of the rough edges is that the printer wizard has no printer defs.
So the question is, which file or files do I need to grab from my old Trinity/Lucid installation (which was done from CD, not nightlies)?
Is that even doable? If it was 1991, I could probably just copy /etc/printcap ... :-)

Holy carp - there is an /etc/printcap! Should have grepped before joking!
Comments therein indicate that it's generated from entries in /etc/cups/printers.conf ... If I copy this file, will it all just work?

This is definitely a bug and needs to be fixed before release. It would probably have been better for you to file a bug report when you first noticed it; that way we could have isolated the issue more quickly.
Also, what rough edges are you referring to? We would like to fix as many of those as possible prior to release.
Thanks!
Tim

Actually I just tried to reproduce the bug on local Maverick and Natty systems and could not. When I went to the Add Printer Wizard it rebuilt the driver database and presented me with a list of printer models to choose from.
Are we talking about the same control panel utility here?

#541. Put it in a few days ago.

Little, hard-to-quantify-for-a-bug-report things. Parts of the display blank out when using drop down boxes in Firefox, for example.
This morning, I had to restart because the Gnome desktop started to win its little fight with TDE and changed the background to the default image and all the icons to the Gnome style. Even the typeface in Thunderbird changed!
I didn't *have* to reboot, but I needed to change some stuff in the BIOS anyway.

OK, sorry I didn't see that bug originally. I put a couple of suggestions on the bug report.

There are some fixes in SVN for GTK related problems; this may be fixed in the binaries shortly.

Wow, I never heard of a desktop (Gnome in this case) behaving that badly towards another before! KDE4 does try to launch Plasma if it isn't forced into submission via dpkg-redirects, but I have no idea why Gnome thinks it has the right to seize full desktop control. :-/
Thanks for letting us know about these problems, and if you run into any more little issues please let us know here.

I tried to use Gnome back in the day (RH 7.3 or 9 or something - and no, I don't mean Fedora) but started with KDE under SuSE and have stuck with it. Still don't like it even though I'd sure save me a lot of trouble if I'd just go along with the crowd.
Not.
Are there pkgs I can safely remove that might prevent this in the future (only seen it the one time)?
