Hello, As a Mageia 2 user, I found annoying not to have any usable TDE version. So, I built myself some TDE packages for Mageia 2.
These are based on the Redhat packages, which were slightly updated to work on Mageia. For end-user, it means that TDE is already very usable, since it has all updates that Fedora/RHEL already has. For maintainer (me, I guess), it's now possible to build TDE for all RHEL/Fedora/Mageia distributions with an unique procedure. I guess that adding support for Mandriva 2011 will be easy too, since these distributions are very close.
For now, I've built tdebase only. To install it on Mageia 2 (x86_64 only, no i386):
First, add the repositories: urpmi.addmedia tde-3.5.13-x86_64 http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-3.5.13/RPMS/x86_64/ urpmi.addmedia tde-3.5.13-noarch http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-3.5.13/RPMS/noarch/ urpmi.addmedia tde-extras-x86_64 http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-extras/RPMS/x86_64/
Then, install the tdebase package: urpmi trinity-tdebase
And there you go. You should be able to choose a new "TDE" se ssssion in your favorite DM (GDM, KDM, or anything else).

Thank you Francois,
Unfortunately I get the following error....
[root@localhost richard]# urpmi trinity-tdebase A requested package cannot be installed: lib64esound0-0.2.41-3mdv2010.1.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied libaudiofile.so.0() (64bit))
I'm running a fully updated Mageia2 with all repos active (i.e. test and backports)
Are there any plans for tdewebdev (Quanta) to be packaged? It's the one killer app that KDE4 lacks for me.

Hello, missing packages are likely old packages from Mandriva (My computer was installed on Mandriva 2010.2 then upgraded to MGA1 then to MGA2). You can still download 2010.2 packages from Mandriva mirrors, for example:
ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.com/MandrivaLinux/official/2010.2/x86_64/media/main/release/lib64audiofile0-0.2.7-1mdv2010.1.x86_64.rpm
BTW I've just added this package the "trinity-extras" repository. You can do a "urpmi.update -a" then try to install again if you do not want to install manually (hope there is no more missing dependencies).
And yes I intend to build the whole TDE stuff on MGA2, so tdewebdev will follow soon.

Thanks for the reply.
I updated urpmi and got a missing htdig so I installed the MDV2010 one and it's just finished installing. I did get some invalid signatures flagged up on the MDV packages but everything else seems to have gone well. I'll do some testing and report back for you.

Hello, I've just built and uploaded quanta to the repository You should be able to install it, including dependencies, with the following commands: urpmi.update -a urpmi trinity-tdewebdev
And run quanta with: /opt/trinity/bin/quanta (you'd better add /opt/trinity/bin to your path before running quanta, just in case)
For now I've successfully built on MGA2 (not mentioning dependencies): tdebase tdebindings tdelibs tdepim tdesdk tdewebdev
Others will follow soon.

Brilliant, thank you so much.
I'm running Quanta under KDE4 on this machine because I do prefer KDE4 to KDE-3.5/Trinity.
However before I get shot down in flames, I do use KDE-3.5 on three other machines, principally my Asus EeePCs, as it is much quicker on these low powered machines than KDE4.
I have built my own distribution for the EeePC that runs in compressed mode (Like a live CD but with persistant changes) and KDE4 is just too hungry and will not run for me so I am using KDE-3.5.
I'm looking to update this to a newer version, probably based on Mandriva/Rosa, so I will find your SRPMs invaluable to build a 32bit version.

Just out of curiosity, why?
Tim
Now that is a very good question and very difficult to answer. I suppose it feels a little more polished, a bit more 21st century. Also, I suppose, with nearly all distros dropping KDE-3.5 I was almost forced to go the KDE4 route if I wanted to stay up to date.
I agree that it was a mess to start with and I was not an early adopter and as I said I still use KDE-3.5 on three low powered machines and have no problem with that. I've tried Gnome,XFCE, E17 even just basic Openbox but I am a definite KDE fan whichever flavour. (Been with it since about 1999)
I must admit to not having tried Trinity yet, as up until now there have been no packages for my distros of choice i.e. Mandriva/Mageia. I have tried repackaging the RedHat/Fedora packages but have not been successful. (I'm not much of a packager but I can sometimes manage to bodge my way through with someone elses SRPMs.)
I've installed Francois' packages on this machine and have booted into Trinity to see that it works but started to have problems immediately with kmail trying to convert my mailbox and ktorrent upset so shut it down and went back to KDE4. I will try when I get some time, to try it with a new user.
I will definitely be trying it on my netbooks when Francois' SRPMs are available so I can build 32 bit versions for my own distro.

Hello, I've now built MGA2 packages for i586 too.
Instructions for i586 installation: urpmi.addmedia tde-3.5.13-i586 http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-3.5.13/RPMS/i586/ urpmi.addmedia tde-3.5.13-noarch http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-3.5.13/RPMS/noarch/ urpmi.addmedia tde-extras-i586 http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-extras/RPMS/i586/
urpmi trinity-tdebase
Now we have the following packages for both architectures:
tdeaccessibility tdebase tdebindings tdelibs tdemultimedia tdepim tdesdk tdewebdev
Source packages are available too: http://trinity.mangafrance.com/mga2/trinity-3.5.13/SRPMS/
Stay tuned for the next packages ...

Hello, all base TDE 3.5.13 packages were successfully built for Mageia 2, both i686 and x86_64 .
dependencies/arts dependencies/avahi-tqt dependencies/dbus-1-tqt dependencies/dbus-tqt dependencies/libcaldav dependencies/libcarddav dependencies/qt3-3.3.8.d dependencies/tqtinterface tdeaccessibility tdeaddons tdeadmin tdeartwork tdebase tdebindings tdeedu tdegames tdegraphics tdelibs tdemultimedia tdenetwork tdepim tdesdk tdetoys tdeutils tdevelop tdewebdev kde-i18n
Users of the Mageia 2 repository can now use "urpmi trinity-desktop" to install all the required components to run Trinity.
I will now add support for Mandriva 2011. It should not be very difficult since it's very close to Mageia 2. Then I will build the applications for both MGA2 and MDV2011.

Hello, just a quick message to inform that all TDE 3.5.13 packages, including libraries and applications, were successfully built on both Mageia 2 and Mandriva 2011.0 . This is just a test build for now, but I think that when 3.5.13.1 will finally be available, we could add them as official packages on the web site, alongside with other supported distributions.
