Since we’re chatting about Konqueror, is there an easy way to either disable its web browsing features or block its off-box access?
I love Konq, but it occasional (very rarely, but happened earlier this week) thinks a file I click is a web page instead of opening it in a local program (KWrite, LibreOffice, or whatever).
Thanks, Michael

Ha, that's something I was looking for, too :)
Thanks! Nik

Pretty smart +1! May be good to add to tips and trick page on the wiki.
Cheers Michele

Hello,
I don't find this information : Menu >> Settings >> Configure Konqueror (Debian-11, Trinity last version).
In a console mode I type : konqueror [2023/06/05 15:52:57.068] TQGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key [2023/06/05 15:52:57.068] TQGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key [2023/06/05 15:52:57.070] [konqueror] [7984] ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Impossible to create module input / output : tdelauncher has returned : Protocole « » unknown. [2023/06/05 15:52:57.070] [konqueror] [7984]
My objective is to use konqueror as web browsing, It seems working, but when I type "send" in a formular, I'm invited to register a document or to open firefox.
Thanks, cheers
André

My objective is to use konqueror as web browser, and too as files manager. As web browser, it works too badly, unable to affich the links. As files manager, it's ok.
Thanks for a help, cheers.

Hi André,
The "Menu" where these instructions start looks like it is intended to be the Menu Bar at the top of an open Konqueror window, not for example the T menu button.

You realize that this is Not A Good Idea, right? Konqueror lacks a lot of modern browser features, so a lot of more complex sites just won't work. Plus, its security model is outdated. It's okay for viewing static HTML documents on localhost, but you should really be using something else on the Web at large.
It takes an entire team larger than the group working on all of TDE at the moment to keep pace with the convolutions of web standards.

I keep saying, use konqueror for one or the other, but not both as file manager and web browser; at least, definitely not at the same time.
If one really wants a rather outdated web browser with primitive features, I recommend trying links2, and keep konqueror just as a file manager.

Before,Trinity Konqueror was a correct web navigator, very light.
Now, when I fill a formular, I receive this message in a window : "Sorry Konqueror TDEInit cannot launch «/opt/bin/firefox/firefox-bin»".
If I use Konqueror as root, it works, and not this message above.
Thanks, cheers,
André

Again, this is a bad idea, to use konqueror as root, especially in connection with web browsing.
I use konqueror strictly as a file manager, and nothing else. The only times I will use konqueror as root is very briefly, as a file manager only, when I must do something that requires root access, and it is simpler to do it through a gui program than to try to figure out how to do it by command-line in a terminal.
For example: I like to save my downloaded packages to an external hard drive. (Sometimes I find myself without internet access, and need to install packages, or even to do a complete system reinstallation; so having my downloaded packages means I can get the machine up and running again without internet access.) But after I have moved my packages to their new location, I get out of root, and close the root version of konqueror. I don't leave it open, waiting to see if something bad might happen; because, if you wait long enough, with a root version of konqueror open, something bad will almost certainly happen, sooner or later.
Others will have their different ways of doing things, and may not like how I do things on my own system, but I feel pretty sure that most long-term users will agree with me on this one.
Try to use root access only when absolutely necessary.

The problem is not to use konqueror as navigator or files manager, but why I receive this message when I click on "send" in a form : "TDEInit cannot launch opt/bin/firefox/firefox-bin" Why konqueror attempts to launch firefox ?
Before, I did not receive this message.
Cheers

Sorry if I misunderstood earlier.
From what you describe, it sounds like you have made firefox your default web browser, so konqueror is passing this on to firefox. However, I don't recall firefox's bin files being in /opt/, but rather in /usr/lib/firefox-esr/ with a symlink to /usr/bin/.
This does not look right to me, but rather it is as if konqueror expects firefox to be in opt because Trinity itself is now in opt. In the old days before TDE, KDE's version of konqueror would do this sometimes, that is, to look for a program to open for a web page or to play media. Back then, KDE was not installed in opt, so this may a sort of relic.
In any case, I believe that you can change this in TDE's version of konqueror by looking in Settings / Configure Konqueror / File Associations.

Hello again,
By the Konqueror settings above, I find a good working Konqueror as before.
If I wrote using Konqueror as root, it was just to test it.
Have a good day, cheers.

Glad to hear it's working again. Sorry about the miscommunication between us, but it seems to have worked out now.

Not to worry. A little good will among us goes a long way here. We get along pretty well on the TDE mailing list, for the most part.

Twenty years ago, when it had a good-sized team behind it and the Web was a simpler place, yes. Now? It doesn't support HTML 5 or CSS 3 or the latest Javascript standards, making it unsuitable for general use even if we assume there are no security holes. Either your browsing is very restricted, or you've been switching to something else for the sites that don't work.
Now, when I fill a formular, I receive this message in a window : "Sorry Konqueror TDEInit cannot launch «/opt/bin/firefox/firefox-bin»".

My guess is that Firefox has snatched the file type association for whatever piece of code handles the form result.
