Which State is Trinity based in? I.e., where, in the most general terms, is Timothy's server farm? (The USA is _too_ vague for my current discussion.) (Of the weather.)

If it's like any of my "stuff", that state is: Flux :-)
The Whois information is accurate. :-)

Thanks all, and thanks for the lesson Felix. :-) I am really woefully ignorant still.

I pinged quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net and got 192.119.205.243. Putting 192.119.205.243 into http://freegeoip.net/ produced:
Country United States Region Missouri City Freeburg Zip/Postal code 65035
bugs.pearsoncomputing.net = 192.119.205.242, so same location. www.trinitydesktop.org = 192.119.205.246, again same location.

Hello,
It's not because the server is based in USA, that the organization of TDE is over there too.

No, it is because Timothy started TDE, and it is based in Timothy's server farm, and Tinothy's server farm is, so far as I know, in the same place as Timothy. Which is where we came in.

Hi Lisi, I am pretty sure you are wrong in this assumption :-) If you read Tim's answer on this thread and try http://www.whois.com/whois/ with "quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net" you will get a pretty different location than the one given by freegeoip. You will even see all the postal coordinates of PearsonComputing...

They could be fairly close - I haven't yet pinpointed them in their States, but the states are adjacent. Could this be the difference between location and registered office to use UK terminology? Or are Timothy and his servers just separated? After all, it is possible ot live on one continenet and have a server on another.
Anyway, I now have a general region of the world!! Closer than "USA". (Which, after all, stretches from Alaska to Hawaii.)
Thanks guys.

Geolocation via IP address is a guess, and often a bad guess. One of my servers is in Washington (state) but various geolocation algorithms place it in Utah or Texas - that's roughly the same error as placing Rochdale in Greece.
Tim said his whois is correct, so "whois pearsoncomputing.net" on the command line implies that his server is in Belvidere Illinois, a mere three hundred miles from geolocation's guess.

I had got an idea of Illinois from somewhere, but the idea was so vague I didn't want to rely on it. :-/

Might seem so, but apparently not:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeburg,_Missouri east central Missouri https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belvidere,_Illinois extreme north central Illinois, nearly Wisconsin, not far from where I lived, in Walworth, WI, during pre-school summers.
I'm guessing there's at least a 5 hour drive between them, but not too far that the whole area couldn't be contiguous for a single fiber optic backbone.

This is much more interesting than the geography lessons when I did sixth grade a _long_ time ago!

As an humorist said in a sketch: The news announcer: -In which state are you? The reporter: -Fine, thank you!
If you have read carefully the TDE R14.0.0 release announcement, it would have lead you to this:
. The TDE project still is led by Timothy Pearson utilizing Raptor Engineering's computing resources.
then to:
Raptor Engineering provides face-to-face consulting services in and around the Rockford, IL area.
Have a nice day! -Alexandre

For a continuation of Lisi's geography lesson :-D , this looks to be a brief drive to the west, across one county line in north central Illinois, maybe as little as 5 minutes or as much as 40 from the Belvidere area, a bit closer to freegeoip's Freeburg, MO. ;-)
