Konqueror exists in KDE4 as the default web browser. If it's not, then it was changed by the packager. It also still has it's file manager capabilities, but they made Dolphin the default for local files.

Yeah... something went seriously wrong there. I would personally prefer to keep Konqueror my file manager. Haven't gotten to packaging yet, but hopefully I can see soon if it's the same deal on Ark Linux.

Pastebin is a place where you can post your code or debug text as plain text. You can also select what programming language you're using (e.g. C, Python, etc., and can even do BASH) and it will try to format your paste to make it easier to read for people who read that language. http://pastebin.com/ is the base URL, but you can do http://project.pastebin.com (replacing project with your software project) to create a free private pastebin for your project. The alphanumeric string at the end of the lincom pastebin above is auto-generated to identify the specific paste, though it can be reused if/when the post is set to expire. You should definitely familiarize yourself with it for testing F\OSS, it can be very useful for sharing and/or debugging code.

the key there is "programming language".. I am NOT a programmer, and I don't play one at night. In my former life I was a system admin, mostly UNIX boxes.. I did a little IVR work ( press 1 to DELETE this message :) but mostly Unix shell scripts, and I've forgotten 90% of that. I will pass that along to my local ALE.org linux user group, thanks!

You don't need to be a programmer... You can post any debug info you see. A lot of mailing lists and IRC channels get mad when people post huge amounts of code, and some people will say to use it for "debug code". If you happen to receive a long error message in a terminal, paste it on pastebin, and if you use BASH, or if your shell is listed, choose that to have it do the formatting for you.

well it was in /opt/trinity/bin but it wasn't in any menu.. wait, it wasn't in any of my GNOME menus.. it was in fact right where it always was in my wife's KDE menu.. it did not appear in my gnome menus under gnome-debian-applications-filemanagement. Or under applications-network like the other browsers are. SO, the only real problem is that trinity did not add a menu/tray item for konqueror for gnome, should it? I am happy just to be able to run it, and now I have an icon in the tray ( I created it).

KDE/TDE and GNOME are completely different, they use different code bases and different toolkits for their GUI elemenets. They use different menu structures and directories to store their menus. If GNOME has a menu editor (or you can find one for GNOME), you can add it (and your other KDE apps) manually. I'd recommend finding a menu tool for GNOME that can scan for and add TDE/KDE3.5 apps.

Paul,
I don't know if this will help, but I wrote a quick script for Arch that creates file lists for each Trinity package to help me sort out package issues. I'm sure whatever package manager you use can be adapted to use the script. You would just need to change the paths and the
for i in $(pacman -Q | grep trinity ); do
and
pacman -Qlq $pkgname >> ${listdir}/${lfname}
lines from 'pacman -Qxx' to whatever deb (or other distro) uses. Like for rpm based distros it would be similar to:
for i in $(rpm -qa | grep trinity ); do
and
rpm -ql $pkgname >> ${listdir}/${lfname}
The file lists have been really helpful when I need to see what got packaged where. Example:
http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/trinity/arch/flist/trinity-kdewebdev-list.t...
The files are easier to grep than running find on the filesystem and you can post them for others to inspect where you can't do that with your filesystem. The script is:
http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/trinity/arch/scr/tfilelist.sh

back up your /home/ and reinstall - will take ~ 2 hours if your setup is not something special.
btw, migration of my office box is on it's way ....
Check out kde 3.5x bug reports as this is an old error. I remember it has something to do with a corrupted file in the user's .kde directory. This bug was most common when opening a root konq session from a reg user.
Common fix is to run kpersonalizer to clear away corrupted files, then resetting the user to preference.
The more aggressive fix it to move .kde to .kde.old.
Try creating a new user and see if this happens again.
Hope this helps,
Kate
