After hours and hours and hours since about 24 hours ago of futile attempts to get 12.1/KDE 4.9.5 upgraded to 12.2/4.10.5, including finally a fresh installation of 12.2, I finally just removed all traces of KDE4 and tried 'zypper -v in trinity-desktop', only to be stopped by $SUBJECT. :~(
Zypper se -s hal produces nada except as irrelevant substring. Zypper se -s trinity lists 1127 packages. Apparently hal needs more appropriate mention on http://www.trinitydesktop.org/wiki/bin/view/Documentation/OpenSUSEBinaryInst... ?
Why 12.2 and not something newer?: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39949
Also in 12.3 and 13.1 there's this: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=833253
Why not KDE 4.11?: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320561
I guess it's back to KDE3. No missing deps installing it. It even runs. :-p

OK I had forgotten to upload the "trinity-hal" packages for OSS 12.2, my mistake. Now I've uploaded them, they will be available in ~48h on the mirrors.
If you can't wait, download the packages you want directly on my server: http://trinity.mangafrance.com/opensuse12.2/trinity-3.5.13/RPMS/

zypper se -s trinity | grep hal produces only trinity-hal-info. Is this the only intended hal package for 12.2?

No it is not intented. On my computer, it returns:
# zypper se -s trinity|grep hal zypper se -s trinity|grep hal | trinity-hal | package | 0.5.14-9.oss122 | x86_64 | trinity | trinity-hal-debuginfo | package | 0.5.14-9.oss122 | x86_64 | trinity | trinity-hal-debugsource | package | 0.5.14-9.oss122 | x86_64 | trinity | trinity-hal-devel | package | 0.5.14-9.oss122 | x86_64 | trinity | trinity-hal-info | package | 20091130-1.oss122 | noarch | trinity.noarch | trinity-koffice-chalk | package | 1.6.3-9.oss122.opt | x86_64 | trinity | trinity-koffice-chalk-data | package | 1.6.3-9.oss122.opt | x86_64 | trinity | trinity-koffice-chalk-debuginfo | package | 1.6.3-9.oss122.opt | x86_64 | trinity

It's like that here now too. :-p
It turns out that on this system that already had Trinity installed, Hal was installed, which trinity-hal has now replaced.
